There is no logic or rationality about forgiveness. Just as there is no logic or calculation in God’s mercy, there is no logic in our efforts to forgive. It is only through the deep experience of God’s infinite mercy and forgiveness that we can truly forgive our neighbour. To this end, we need to stop seeing God as a cruel taskmaster. He is our merciful Father and Mother. Jesus came to reveal the merciful face of God, and through this revelation we learn that the only way to offer forgiveness to those who have wronged us is by deeply experiencing God’s mercy ourselves. The Logic of God’s Mercy and Forgiveness shows that only forgiveness can heal alienated relationships in our world, uniting us in the boundless mercy of God.
