Thomas Menamparampil, has been a key figure in the peace process in Northeast India, particularly among the ethnic groups of the region. Appointed Bishop of Dibrugarh in 1981, he was made an Archbishop at Guwahati in 1995. He retired in 2012. As a pastor, he brought many schools and hospitals into existence. As an intellectual, he has been invited to several universities in India, China, Africa, and America to speak on themes like inter-cultural understanding, healing of historic memories, reconciliation, and peace. Retired from office, he keeps writing and giving talks.
